I'm Daniel Carelius, and I chose these five in Oslo.
Two are by Anton Mauve, three by Paul Gabriël — Dutch painters working in the 1870s and 80s, in amber, olive and a great deal of low sky. The shop is named after them.
I chose them against each other rather than one at a time: open polder, a lane of trees, heath, water, a mill. Five different scenes that still read as one wall. The sizes and the spacing I settled on a wall at home, with a folding rule.
